Freycinet Coast - Maria - East Coast Tasmania

The Freycinet Maria Coast comprises a spectacular 120 kilometre coastal strip from Buckland in the south to Bicheno in the north, taking in Maria Island, the Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay.

The journey encompasses pristine sandy beaches, azure waters with breathtaking ocean views, distinctive pink granite peaks, historic sites, small friendly towns and accessible national parks.

It’s a coast offering activities for all ages - bushwalking, bird watching, swimming, surfing, abseiling, cycling, sea kayaking, canoeing, quad biking, diving, cruises, wildlife viewing, penguin tours, scenic flights, shopping, golf, bowls, ocean and river fishing or simply relaxing with a glass of fine east coast wine and letting the cares of the world go by.

It’s a coast for all seasons. We’re in a rain shadow area with an average annual rainfall of only 560 mm/22 inches. Walkers are unlikely to be caught in a deluge regardless of the season. In spring the heathlands are dotted with colourful wildflowers, including native orchids. Autumn days are usually balmy and perfect for any outdoor activity. Winter is mostly very pleasant too, with an average temperature in the high teens. Even frosts are a rarity here. If it is a bit cool or it does rain, curl up with a book by an open fire and let the elements do their worst outside. Bad weather never lasts for long. The Weatherzone site.

Accommodation options suit every budget and include camp sites (some free), back-packer hostels, caravan and cabin parks, comfortable self catering houses, unique B & B’s, motels and luxury resorts.

Savour superb local food and wine. You’ll find everything from pizzas and fish and chips to the best of fine dining. Self caterers are spoilt for choice with locally made breads, fresh fish, oysters, mussels, rock lobsters, quality small goods and local fruit in season.
